Through trauma and life circumstances we can pull in our spirit, our life force.  We do this to protect, though in the process we cut ourselves off from life, from joy, from truly and fully living.  This essence opens us up again to life, to living fully, comfortably, safe in our aliveness.  When we open to life we open our hearts and our minds to fully experiencing the joys and experiences of life.
